Introducing the Google Chrome OS

Google has just announced the introduction of the Google Chrome Operating System. Google Chrome is a light weight open source project that is initially targeted for netbooks. The source code will be open to the public later this year and netbooks running the said OS will be available by 2010. Since this is targeted for netbooks, we expect this OS to be fast and simple with minimal frills on the user interface.

The Google Chrome OS will run on both X86 and ARM architecture. Application developers will use the web as the platform for the development of application and any application develop for the Google Chrome OS will also run on any standards-based browser on Windows, Mac and Linux.

How about Google Android? Google Android is also introduced and designed to be used for small devices like phones, set top boxes including netbooks. Netbooks is also what is targeted by the Google Chrome OS, so we expect that the two projects will overlap. But as per Google, the Chrome OS is primarily targeted for people that spend their time mostly on the web.
