MSI’s eSATA & USB combo solution: Power eSATA

MSI has just announced the implementation of a powered eSATA connector on its AM3 motherboard, the MSI 790FX-GD70. In normal usage an eSATA device needs a separate power source such as an external adaptor or another USB cable. In the MSI implementation no external adapter is needed because the eSATA and USB combo connector already supplies the needed power for the external device. This means other USB ports can be used for other purposes. One thing more about this solution is that the Powered eSATA is 8x more faster than a normal USB port. The powered eSATA is implemented on the MSI 790FX-GD70, it is the first AM3 motherboard to be fitted with the combo solution.
